National Unity Party (UBP) Deputy Group Chairman, Nicosia District Chairman Dr. Ahmet Savaşan, in his post on his personal social media account on the occasion of “March 21, World Down Syndrome Awareness Day”, drew attention to the need for more work for individuals with Down Syndrome and said, “In order to make the arrangements that individuals with special needs need in both legal and other areas, it is an inevitable necessity for the government and the opposition to work together sincerely and get results as soon as possible. By underlining this fact once again, I emphasize that this is the expectation of our people.”.
Savaşan's post is as follows:
“We need to work more for our individuals with Down Syndrome.
Although various steps have been taken so far to integrate individuals with Down Syndrome into society, it is clear that these steps are insufficient. The government, the opposition, universities, the private sector, the private sector and non-governmental organizations have important duties in creating standards where individuals with Down syndrome can live like ‘normal’ people and ensuring that they receive the physiotherapy and mental education they need.
People expect the government and the opposition to work together sincerely.
I believe that all members of parliament, regardless of party affiliation, will act with the awareness of their responsibility on this sensitive issue. It is an inevitable necessity for the government and the opposition to work together and sincerely to achieve results as soon as possible in order to make the arrangements that individuals with special needs need in both legal and other areas. I underline this fact once again and emphasize that this is the expectation of our people.”
